Why is an email I filed in FYI not appearing in my Inbox?

When you file an email in FYI, Outlook may automatically move or reorder it based on your view or category settings. This can make it seem as though the email has disappeared from your Inbox, but it’s still stored safely in Outlook and in FYI.

This usually happens because:

  • Your Inbox is sorted by something other than Date, such as Category. When FYI applies the “Filed in FYI” category, Outlook may move the email to the bottom of your Inbox.
  • The email may have been moved out of your Inbox view due to your Outlook settings.

To find the email in Outlook:

  • Sort your Inbox by Date so the newest emails appear at the top.
  • Search in Outlook using Current Mailbox or All Mailboxes to locate the email, even if it’s no longer visible in your Inbox.
