The Manual trigger is available when creating Custom Processes, allowing practices to run an Automation Process only when required, instead of the process running automatically on a defined schedule or when a particular event has occurred.
Users can run the process manually from Automation, a Workspace, a List, or another Automation Process, depending on the configured Run From options.
Trigger - Manual
Selecting the Manual trigger allows users to run the Automation Process when needed,
Once Manual is selected, users must configure where the process can be run from using the Run From options.
Manual trigger details
The Run From options can be configured to define where the manual Automation Process can be run.
Note: The Run From options are only available for processes where the Manual trigger has been selected. They are not available for processes with a Schedule trigger.
| Action | Details | Example |
| From Workspace |
Used to allow the Automation Process to be run manually from a Workspace. The process will be available from the relevant Workspace, depending on the filter selected in the Automation Process. New Custom Processes are enabled for From Workspace by default. |
Client Workspace Job Workspace Employee Workspace |
| From List |
Used to allow the Automation Process to be run manually from a List. Users can select one or more items from the List, then run the process for the selected items. Use From List when users need to run the same process for multiple selected clients, jobs, documents, employees, or CSV data import files. |

Working with the Manual trigger
Running Manual Processes
Manual Custom Processes can be run from different areas of FYI, depending on the configured Run From options and the filter selected in the Automation Process.
Users must belong to a User Group with the relevant permission enabled to run Automation Processes from Workspaces or Lists.
For more information, refer to Running Custom Processes.
Execute Process Step
The Manual trigger can be combined with the Execute Process step. This allows one Automation Process to start another manual process as part of a larger workflow. For example, a new employee onboarding process could use the Execute Process step to run separate onboarding processes for IT, HR, Finance, and Operations.
For more information, refer to Process Step Details - Execute Process.
