Issue

If you use Upload or Drag and Drop to manually upload an email with attachments to FYI, the attachments are not available in FYI to be filed.

The uploaded email does not show the paperclip icon, and the Attachments drawer displays "No available attachments". However, when you preview the email, you can see that it includes attachments.

Cause

When you manually upload an email using Upload or Drag and Drop, FYI treats the email as a single document. The attachments are embedded within that email file and are not recognised as separate documents. Because of this, they are not displayed individually in FYI.

This differs from emails filed using the FYI Add-in for Outlook, where FYI processes the message and its attachments separately. This allows attachments to be viewed, filed, and shared independently of the original email.

Solution

To ensure emails and their attachments are filed correctly, we recommend filing emails directly from Outlook using the FYI Add-in.

  1. Open the email in Outlook.
  2. Use the FYI Add-in to file the email.
  3. File attachments from the Email Attachments section in Outlook or within FYI to ensure they appear as separate documents.

When attachments are filed separately, they can be viewed, shared, and version-controlled independently, helping maintain clarity across related documents.
