Why does the document name show differently when I export a PDF document from FYI?

Issue

When Exporting a document, the name of the document is different to the Name in FYI. For example, the document Name of the PDF in FYI is "2021 Audit Report" but when the document is exported, the browser shows the name as "Invoice INV 123456.pdf"

Cause

The document itself has a saved Title which is what the browser is displaying when viewing the document via browser. To check this:

  1. Open the PDF document in a PDF tool such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  2. Display the Properties (for example from the File menu).
  3. Check what is displayed for the Title.

Solution

We suggest consulting your IT on how the documents are being generated and how the Title is being added as the metadata for the PDF.

If the PDF was created from a Word document, you can change the Title in Word before saving as PDF. You can also refer to this article https://itsupport.smu.edu.sg/hc/en-us/articles/360015764053-Editing-the-document-title-of-a-PDF-file

If the document was created from a template you can change the document metadata for each new exported document so that the title will not be carried forward even if you change the file name.
