Opening a PDF for editing using OneDrive or FYI Desktop

For practices on the Pro or Elite plan, FYI allows you to edit PDFs directly within FYI using the PDF Management features. 

If you're using a third-party PDF editor, such as Adobe Acrobat, or on the Intermediate plan, you can use the Edit in OneDrive or Edit in FYI Desktop functions to edit PDFs using an external application.

PDFs with a Workflow Status of Client Signed cannot be edited, and the Edit function won't be displayed.

Open and edit the PDF

1. Select the PDF from a Documents list.
2. Select the arrow next to Edit.
3. Choose how you want to open the PDF for editing:
   • Using OneDrive: select Edit in OneDrive. FYI exports the PDF to the FYI - My Edits folder in OneDrive.
     
   • Using FYI Desktop: select Edit in FYI Desktop. If prompted, select Open FYI Desktop.
     
4. Open the PDF in your external PDF application:
   • Using OneDrive: from the Opening Document for Edit window, select Open Online. The PDF opens in a new browser tab.
     
     Alternatively, open the PDF from your FYI - My Edits folder in Windows Explorer to open it in your default PDF application.
     
   • Using FYI Desktop: the PDF opens in your default PDF application.
5. Edit the PDF as required.
6. Save and close the PDF:
   • Using OneDrive: the saved file overwrites the PDF in your FYI - My Edits folder, ready to synchronise back to FYI.
   • Using FYI Desktop: the saved file overwrites the PDF in your FYI Desktop folder, ready to synchronise back to FYI.
7. In FYI, select the PDF from the Documents list to display the Document drawer.
8. Select I am finished editing. The Document drawer closes and FYI synchronises the latest file as a new version.
