Issue
I would like to change the URL of the address used for the SharePoint site to something more easily recognisable and memorable for my clients.
How do I change the URL?
Solution
The SharePoint site can be set as the root site in Microsoft 365, making it a more simple URL to provide to clients, for example, https://yourgrowthpartners.sharepoint.com.
Note: When changing the URL, the SharePoint site may be temporarily locked by Microsoft for up to 30 minutes. Collaborate functionality will not be available during this time, including sharing documents from FYI.
- Open the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- From the menu on the left, click Show all.
- Select SharePoint.
- The SharePoint admin center will open.
- In the menu on the left, click Active sites.
- Click the URL column heading to sort the sites by A to Z. The current root site should be displayed at the top, and display https://.
- Hover over the site, and click on the circle in the first column to select it.
- Click Replace site in the toolbar.
Note: You may have to click the ... button to see the menu option.
- Enter the URL of the Collaborate site into the Replace root site drawer.
- Click Save.
- The SharePoint site will then be updated to become the root site for the organisation.
Note: When changing the URL, the SharePoint site may be temporarily locked by Microsoft for up to 30 minutes. Collaborate functionality will not be available during this time, including sharing documents from FYI.
