Error "Tax Return sync failed due to Rate Limiting, please request a manual sync" in Practice Activity

Issue

When synchronising Tax Returns with Xero Practice Manager, the sync doesn't complete and an alert is added to Practice Activity:

  • Tax Return sync failed due to Rate Limiting, please request a manual sync.

Cause

Xero uses rate limits, meaning there is a set amount of requests that can be made each day to synchronise data between FYI and Xero Practice Manager. Refer to Xero Practice Manager Rate Limiting

When attempting to sync the Tax Returns, the remaining number of available requests was exceeded, and rate limiting was applied. No further synchronisations can take place until more requests become available.

Solution

You can prompt a manual synchronisation of Tax Returns once more requests are available, or wait for the next successful overnight synchronisation. Refer to Running a Manual Sync with Xero Practice Manager and Additional Notes on Syncing
