Formatting and Fonts using the Editor in FYI

There are various ways to format text in FYI using the formatting tools in the Editor.

Formatting the text

You can format the text using the tools at the top of the Editor. The text displays in rich text to reflect any formatting.

When text has been selected, if a font has been applied to the selection, this is displayed in the Font Family and Size. The following is an example of the font applied to the text in an Email Signature.

Use the Font Family drop-down to select a different font. There is a set selection of fonts available in FYI.

The Font Size drop-down will select a different size font. If creating an email, there is a difference between the font sizes used by FYI (pixels) and font sizes used by Outlook (points). Refer to Font Size Comparison between FYI and Outlook below.

Note: When a half-size font has been selected the Editor toolbar will only display the first two characters and not the total value, for example, "14" instead of "14.5". However, the correct font size of 14.5 will be applied to the text. This will be addressed in a future update.

The tools with the vertical ellipsis display additional tools, for example, click the More Text icon to display additional options.

When the cursor is at the left-hand side of the template text area, a Quick Insert icon displays.

Note: Due to the way in which styling is applied to HTML, you may find that using certain keys (such as backspace) you may lose the style. If this happens, you can usually restore the styling by clicking elsewhere in the content area of the Editor.

Font used for the Text in the Editor

The text entered in the Editor uses the Font and Font Size set for the Default Font and Default Font Size in your practice Settings (refer to Managing Practice Settings for Documents). If you do not have the Default Font and Default Font Size set for your practice, this is set as Sans Serif 12.

Font Size Comparison between FYI and Outlook

There is a difference between the way you specify the font size in Outlook and how this is done in FYI Templates and Signatures.

Outlook uses "points" and FYI uses "pixels" to determine the font size.

The following table shows the Font Sizes that can be selected in FYI email Templates and Signatures and shows the comparison to the size of the font in Outlook.

For example, if you use 13.5 point size in Outlook, select this as 18 font size in the FYI Template or Signature.

Outlook Size (points) FYI Size (pixels)
6 8
7 9
8 10.5
9.5 12.5
10 13
11 14.5
11.5 15
12 16
12.5 16.5
13.5 18
14 18.5
14.5 19
18.5 24.5
24 32
24.5 32.5

Note: When a half-size font has been selected the Editor toolbar will only display the first two characters and not the total value, for example, "14" instead of "14.5". However, the correct font size of 14.5 will be applied to the text. This will be addressed in a future update.
